Kids Worship vs. Family Worship

KidStuf

Monday and Tuesday I met with Children’s Ministers from Texas, Arkansas, Florida, and Louisiana in a round table discussion about kids and church. All of them either were currently providing a children’s worship hour, or were making plans to do so.

At First Baptist McKinney, we made an intentional decision to stop doing Kids Worship. We had Kids Worship, and it was good. But we stopped doing the good because we believed we could attempt something great. Not great because of how great of actors, performers, or media people were are. But great because of the potential of tapping in to the power and influence that parents wield in their child’s life.

I am constantly reminded of this when meeting families that attended KidStuf for the first time. A periodic comment is, “That seemed like it was as much for adults as it was for kids.” And our answer yes, “You get it!” As a children’s ministry we are investing in the adults because we know that if you get the concept, if you “buy in” and get excited, that it will radically affect the life of your child. Your passion will become their passion. After all, you have 3000 hours this year to impact your child’s life. How will you spend them?
